A Beginner’s Guide to Demonologist: Game Mechanics and Achievements

Are you a fan of horror games that provide an adrenaline rush? Then you must have heard about Demonologist, a horror game that has taken the gaming world by storm. This game was released in March 2023 and is developed by Real Engine 5. In this comprehensive guide, we will cover the game mechanics, character creation, maps, evidence and tools, investigation, exorcism, ghosts, cursed objects, instant identifiers, and achievements.

Introduction

Demonologist is a visually stunning horror game that provides an immersive experience to its players. It has a steampunk vibe that is unique and different from other horror games. The game is still in its early access phase, but it is already incredibly enjoyable.

Safehouse

When you host a lobby, you get to choose your safe house. The standard safe house is a tiny house, but there are other safe house options available to purchase. The real estate menu on the right-side TV allows you to buy more safe house sites. The safe house customization option allows you to purchase various additions for your own safe house, including a cat and a radio with different music options.

Character Creation

Demonologist has limited character customization options, with only one male and one female character to choose from. However, you can choose from different hairstyles and outfits. There are four categories of clothing: head, upper body, lower body, and footwear. You need to purchase clothes from the right side TV in the safe house since you start with only one outfit option.

Maps

There are currently three maps available in the game, and a fourth one is in the works. These maps include the Abandoned House, Cyclone Street, and Hospital, with Kuresawa House coming soon. Each map requires a specific level to unlock.

Evidence and Tools

In Demonologist, you need to gather evidence and use tools to progress through the game. Here are the different evidence tools you can use in the game:

Evidence Tools

  • EMF Reader: This device detects electromagnetic fields caused by paranormal activity. Once you get EMF 5, you have collected this evidence.
  • ESG: It raises paranormal energy and displays the ghost on top of the device.
  • Easel Canvas: Allows the ghosts to paint images from their dimension directly onto the canvas.
  • Ecto Glass: Allows you to see ectoplasm left behind by the paranormal. It is also needed for the exorcism objectives in Abandoned House and Cyclone Street.
  • Spirit Box: Lets you ask questions to the ghost and enables them to speak to you.
  • UV Light: Shows paranormal fingerprints on objects such as light switches and doors.
  • Thermometer: Used to measure the temperature of the room. You can also tell whether a room is freezing by seeing your own breath.

Other Tools

  • Flashlight: Allows you to see in dark places.
  • Crucifix: A holy item that protects you from a single ghost hunt.
  • Sanity Pills: Restore about 25 sanity and can also remove certain ghost curses.
  • Candle: Provides some light and helps you maintain your sanity. It is needed for the exorcism objectives in Abandoned House.
  • Tripod Camera: Can be used to monitor evidence safely from the tent.
  • Photo Camera: Allows you to take photos. It is needed for the exorcism objectives in Abandoned House.

Setting Up Your Investigation

To start your investigation, you need to set up your equipment in your safe house. You’ll use three screens to do this. The screen on the left is where you select the map. The screen in the middle is where you select difficulty, ready up, and can review your selected equipment. The screen on the right is where you purchase your tools and add them to your loadout. Once you’ve set up, you can start your investigation.

During your investigation, you’ll use your equipment to find evidence. All ghosts have a total of three pieces of evidence each. Be sure to mark them in your journal by hitting “J” once you find them. Once you have found all three evidence, everyone in your investigation needs to lock in their choice of ghost. Then, you have two options: everyone can head to the car and leave to collect cash and exp, or you can proceed onto your optional objectives and finally the exorcism.

Performing Exorcisms

Each map has its own exorcism ritual. Performing exorcisms is necessary, but it will give you the most amount of money. Here’s what you need to do for each map:

Abandoned House – You need to have the candle, ecto gla*s, and photo camera. The ghost has blown out a candle, you need to capture a photo and find the ghost silhouette, and you can burn five fingers found around the house in the basement.

Cyclone Street – You need to have the ecto gla*s. For the first part, you need to find a digital time that will be on a wall somewhere in the house. For the second part, you need to input the time found on the arms of three old wall clocks found somewhere in the house.

Hospital – You need to collect three pieces of a shotgun from anywhere inside the hospital. Once all three pieces are collected, you then need to shoot the ghost to exercise it.

Kuresawa House – This map is not yet released.

How to Identify Ghosts and Gather Evidence

Ghosts have long been a fascination for many, and in recent years, ghost hunting games have become increasingly popular. One such game is Demonologist, where players investigate haunted locations and collect evidence to identify the type of ghost they are dealing with. In Demonologist, there are 24 different types of ghosts, and each has its own unique characteristics and behaviors. In this article, we will discuss how to identify ghosts and gather evidence to help you in your investigation.

Identifying Ghosts

To identify a ghost in Demonologist, you need to collect three pieces of evidence that are specific to that type of ghost. There are six different types of evidence that can be gathered: EMF 5, Ectoplasm, Fingerprints, Freezing, Spirit Box, and Easel. Each ghost has a unique combination of evidence that can be collected.

EMF 5

EMF 5 is a type of electromagnetic field that can be detected using an EMF reader. This evidence is used to identify ghosts such as Abaddon, Goryo, Jinn, Wraith, Yokai, and Revenant. These ghosts have a high level of electromagnetic energy and can often trigger the EMF reader to reach level 5.

Ectoplasm

Ectoplasm is a type of residue or slime that ghosts leave behind. This evidence is used to identify ghosts such as Agash, Demon, Deogen, Guipo, Raiju, and Yurei. These ghosts often leave ectoplasm in areas where they have been active.

Fingerprints

Fingerprints are a common type of evidence that can be found on doors, windows, and other surfaces. This evidence is used to identify ghosts such as Deogen, Goryo, Gul, Oni, Onryo, and Poltergeist. These ghosts often leave fingerprints behind as they move around the environment.

Freezing

Freezing temperatures are a common occurrence when ghosts are present. This evidence is used to identify ghosts such as Abaddon, Agash, Demon, Gul, Hantu, and Mare. These ghosts often lower the temperature in the environment, leaving behind areas of freezing temperatures.

Spirit Box

A spirit box is a device that allows users to communicate with spirits. This evidence is used to identify ghosts such as Abaddon, Boogey, Guipo, Hantu, Iblis, and Yokai. These ghosts often respond to questions asked through the spirit box.

Easel

An easel is used to hold a canvas, and it can be used to collect evidence in Demonologist. This evidence is used to identify ghosts such as Demon, Hantu, Iblis, Mare, Revenant, Shade, and Thaye. These ghosts often leave behind ghostly images on the canvas.

Instant Identifiers

One of the key features of Demonologist is the use of instant identifiers. These are clues that can help players quickly identify the type of ghost they are dealing with. For example, if a player encounters freezing temperatures, they may be dealing with an Abaddon ghost. If they hear strange noises, they may be dealing with a Jinn. However, not all ghosts have instant identifiers, so players must rely on other evidence to identify them.

Cursed Objects

Cursed objects are items that can have negative effects on players in the game. One of the cursed objects in Demonologist is the Ouija board. When used, the Ouija board can anger the ghost and make it more likely to attack the players. Another cursed object is the tarot deck, which can have unpredictable effects on the players. Cursed objects can be found throughout the game and should be used with caution.

Tarot Cards

Tarot cards are another feature of Demonologist. In the game, tarot cards can be used to gain insight into the ghost haunting a particular location. Each card represents a different aspect of the ghost, such as its personality, history, or motivations. Players can use tarot cards to gather information and help them identify the type of ghost they are dealing with. However, tarot cards can also have negative effects on the players, so they should be used with caution.

Achievements

Demonologist features a variety of achievements for players to earn. These achievements are earned by completing specific tasks or objectives in the game. Some achievements are straightforward, such as capturing a photo of the ghost or finding all three pieces of a shotgun. However, some achievements are more challenging, such as resurrecting a dead friend using the tarot cards. Players can view their achievements in the game and compare them with friends to see who has completed the most.
