DREDGE – Aberrations and Basic Strategy Complete Guide

Are you struggling to catch all the aberrations in DREDGE? Fear not, as this guide has got you covered! We will give you all the tips and tricks you need to catch those elusive creatures.

Introduction

While catching most aberrations follows a similar approach, we will provide an in-depth strategy for each specific aberration. We will continuously update this guide as we gather more information. If you have any ideas for aberrations that aren’t listed or additional details on the listed aberrations, feel free to share them in the comments.

Please note that this guide assumes that you are already able to fish in all locations (oceanic or hadal, etc.) and have access to all spells. Spoilers of gameplay are inevitable.

Basic Strategy

For most aberrations, finding them is as simple as locating their spawning location and waiting for them to appear. However, there are ways to speed up this process. Sometimes, a shimmer effect may appear over the school of fish. This indicates that a specific anomaly will spawn within the school. This effect often occurs at night. The spell Atrophy almost always grants aberrations and is much quicker than regular fishing.

  1. Review the Encyclopedia for the location and depth of water/type of base fish.
  2.  Look for the shimmer effect or apply the Atrophy spell.
  3.  Collect the aberration.

Mixed Bait Strategy

If you are having trouble finding a certain fish, try the “mixed bait” item (which can be purchased after completing the twisted strand quest line). This item will randomly fish up any fish that is local to the area. This is extremely useful for all the open ocean anomalies, where finding a specific spawn location can be tedious. This is a great option for the atrophy spell.

  1. Locate the location of aberrations and apply mixed bait.
  2.  Use the Atrophy spell.
  3.  Collect the aberrations.

The Gale Cliff’s merchant Dock is ideal for farming open ocean aberrations. (See the image below)

Strategies for Overcoming Aberrations

Sharks (and Sailfish)

Two sharks can be observed close to the Greater Marrow Dock (which is available depending on the time of day). Hammerheads are near the Stellar Basin merchant. Frilled Sharks are located on the west side of the ruin of Devil’s Spine. Sailfish are found north of the Greater Marrow dock (west of the small northern islands).

Anchovy King

Anchovy/Anchovy Kings can only be discovered by trawling the open ocean. To do this, you will need the Heavy Duty Trawl Net (last net research unlock). Once the Heavy Duty Trawl net is equipped, you can sail the ocean until you find the Anchovy King. It could take a while.

Decrepit/Collapsed Viperfish

This can be found by using the mixed bait strategy. You can find the exact location here (use the Atrophy spell). We suggest catching both aberrations.

Charred Sunfish

This is possible using the mixed bait strategy. You can find the exact location here (use the Atrophy spell).

Fish without Aberration

All fish have an aberration version. However, all crabs (any item caught in a pot) don’t have an aberration or exotic fish.

FAQs

Q. How do I unlock the Heavy Duty Trawl Net?

A. The Heavy Duty Trawl Net is the last net research unlocks. Keep researching nets until you unlock it.

Q: What spells do I need to catch aberrations?

A: You don’t need any specific spells, but the Atrophy spell is recommended as it almost always grants aberrations and is much quicker than regular fishing.

Q: Are there aberration versions of all fish?

A: Yes, all fish have an aberration version, except for crabs (any item caught in a pot) and exotic fish.

Conclusion

In conclusion, catching aberrations in DREDGE can be a fun and rewarding experience. While the basic strategy involves finding the spawning location of the aberration and waiting for them to appear, there are ways to speed up the process, such as using the Atrophy spell or the mixed bait item. Some aberrations require specific fishing equipment, such as the Heavy Duty Trawl Net for the Anchovy King, and others can only be found at certain locations.

We hope that this guide has been helpful in your quest to catch aberrations in DREDGE. If you have any additional tips or strategies, feel free to share them in the comments. Happy fishing!
